well, my baby went for the competition just now. and i know how happy he was when he manage to get the ticket. to him, golf is everything. golf is the only reason for him to be happy. and eventually, i'm glad that by watching golf somehow will boost up his happiness for the day.
hmmm, golf is a sport using different types of clubs such as driver, a putter and irons which hits a ball into each hole on a golf course by having lowest possible number of strokes. and a hole is classified by its par. so, in this bso (barclays singapore open), its known to have par-71. indeed, most major competition will be playing to a par of 70, 71 or 72. well, back to the basic. golf clubs is basically the golf sticks. so, what's the difference between a driver, putter and irons?
picture tells it all: (from left to right) a driver, a putter and an iron.
a driver is basically has the longest range of any golf club in a golfer's bag. it has large head with a deep face. it is designed in a way to hit off the tee for the first shot of long-yardage holes. a putter on the other hand is designed to push or roll the ball along the ground towards the cup. means if it's close to the cup, then will use putter. am i right baby? lastly, irons are generally used for shorter shots compared to driver. wow! at least now i manage to know the different types of golf clubs. actually, there's in detail information which you can find through the net. my baby ever explained to me once what the difference between stainless steel irons & etc. if i could still remember, stainless steel is for more accuracy. correct me if i'm wrong baby? hahaha.
handicap systems. i ever asked my baby how do you calculate your handicap and unfortunately he didn't explained that to me. and now i know why. because calculating a handicap is often complicated. but basically, a handicap is a numerical measure of an amateur golfer's ability to play over 18 holes. In which, it is essentially representing the average over par of a number of a player's previous above average rounds, adjusted for course difficulty. you get it? haha. i don't either. but it's oukaye. sooner later, i will understand for sure. haha. simply means, the lower the number, the better you are. professional golfers don't use handicap system actually because their handicap is calculated to be zero or even lesser, negative. This people are then referred to as "scratch golfer".
there are different types of shots, hazards that can be talked about too. but i'm not going to talk about that. i guess, knowing this basic terms of playing golf will then slowly developed my knowledge on golf. haha. being with my baby, and i don't even know a shit about golf - something must be wrong isn't it? haha. thus, i'm learning slowly. bit by bit and you wouldn't know that i might be able to hit the ball as well. haha. just kidding.
i know golf is such an expensive game. the equipments can cost you more than thousands of dollars. but if you are really interested in golf, well, you should venture out. seriously. at the same time, you should try all kinds of stuff while you still able to. haha.
you know what? i'm feeling better now. slightly happier than before i blog this entry. thanks for my baby, giving me this idea of topic for today. haha. maybe i shall talk about other kinds of games as well in some other entry. *wink*
